$362,875 raised for the city of New York.
Not bad for skateboards, masks and that bejewelled furby.
Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures and let us tell you that A24 have really stepped up.
The New York based independent studio behind films like The Lighthouse, Uncut Gems and Hereditary have just finished their fourth auction of props and costumes from their films in aid of four New York charities: NYC Health + Hospitals, Food Bank For NYC, the FDNY Foundation and Queens Community House.
The lots on auction ranged from props like Stevie’s Skateboard – Mid 90s to costumes like The Bear Headdress – Midsommar and even That Bejewelled Furby – Uncut Gems. A personal favourite of ours was The Light – The Lighthouse. A giant lantern built for the film that when gazed into is said to show you all knowledge of everything all at once. It seems that other fans of the film were just as excited by the set piece as us and bidding ended in a final auction cost of $80,000. A close second to the Mermaid Carving from the same film which went for $110,750!
On close of the last auction they had raised $362,875. Not a bad fundraiser with 100% of the money raised going towards helping the frontline workers of New York during the Covid 19 outbreak.
We’ve seen many other studios and production companies pulling together to do their bit during this pandemic such as Pinewood Studios 3D printing personal protection equipment for the NHS and MUBI distributors kickstarting a fundraiser with thousands of pounds donated by the company itself.
It seems as though the industry is banding together to help pave the way back into production in whatever way they can, even if that means auctioning off That Bejewelled Furby.
